The Mekong Angel investment network (MAIN) is based on the simple idea that to drive economic development in emerging markets, we need to get people who have run successful businesses elsewhere in the world to engage with and become committed to the early stage business/entrepreneurial community.
MAIN believes the best way to make such long term commitments happen is to get individuals to invest in companies (because this is what happens elsewhere). We encourage investment by organizing delegations of investors from around the world to come to SE Asia to engage with local entrepreneurs and investors.
Participating delegates get to spend up to 2 weeks on organized tours meeting with and engaging with local entrepreneurs and investors. The ecosystem benefits from 2 weeks of intense training, engagement, encouragement and knowledge transfer, as well as investments that each delegate has committed to make.
MAIN has been made possible with the support of the Mekong Business Initiative (MBI), a program within the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded by the Australian government.
MAIN was founded by 2 angel investors who observed the shortage of experienced global business people available to help early stage companies in the Mekong Region. With the support of the Mekong business initiative (MBI), a program within the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded by the Australian government, MAIN is bringing experience angel and business investors into the region to invest in and also to support, mentor, inspire, teach and help develop the entrepreneurial environment, creating jobs and enterprise.
